Teaser for A NIGHT OUT, 12 minute one take film (PRODUCER/DP)

Lead actress Rosalyn Ross spends most of the story wandering through the labyrinthine stairwells and crowded corridors of the film’s prime set, the Mollie Fontaine Lounge, with the camera of cinematographer Andrew Trent Fleming on her trail like a confidante ghost. (Currently working on a documentary about Memphis soul legend Don Bryant, Fleming was arguably the Film Prize MVP: He shot four of the 10 competing films.) This cinematic expression distinguished “A Night Out” from several of the other competing films, which just as well could have communicated their frequently ironic insights into racial inequity, social injustice and personal trauma through a short story or a black-box theater piece.
